Through the efforts of The Friends of Hollingworth, our War Memorial now has Listed Building status, and with the help of a generous grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, and support from Tameside Borough Council, work has been carried out to clean and restore it and to preserve and maintain it for future generations.
This year as Remembrance Sunday coincides with the centenary of the end of the First World War a Re-dedication will follow the Remembrance Service. There will also be a cascade of locally knitted poppies forming a backdrop to the service.
In addition a lot of work has been undertaken to research the lives of the men named on our memorial.
You will all have received your ‘Lest We Forget’ book through your letterboxes. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Sue Featherston for her tireless efforts and research which enabled the publication of the book.
We are also including our local Primary School children (year 6) in a project based on the Memorial culminating in them receiving an Arts Award.
Finally keep your eye on our calendar of events, there are to be poppy walks through the village and drop in sessions to check out your own family archives where you would be made very welcome.
The walks are by ticket only so make sure you get your ticket numbers are limited.
